CALL
FOR PAPERS –
Hamburg International Conference of Logistics 2006 (HICL2006)
Complexity and Risk Management in Supply Chains
15 - 16 September 2006
We are pleased to announce and invite you to
participate in the HICL2006 Hamburg International Conference of
Logistics, which will be held at Hamburg University of Technology
(TUHH), Germany from 15 - 16 September 2006. This international
conference is co-organized by the Hamburg University of Technology
(TUHH) and the Hamburg School of Logistics (HSL).

Theme and Objectives |
|
In today’s
business environment, it is widely accepted that competition
no longer takes place between individual companies but between
entire supply chains. On the other hand, the focus on core
competencies and reduction of the level of vertical
integration have led companies to intensify their outsourcing
activities. Because of this, the coordination requirements
within supply chains are especially high and the complexity of
information and physical flows has become a challenging issue.
In addition, due to the volatility of customer requirements
and rapid technological development, supply chains have to
react effectively through adaptability and quick
reconfiguration. Therefore, supply chains should not be static
but dynamic structures, which have the capability of
accommodating the changes occurring in their environment. The
result of all these factors is a drastic increase of
complexity and risks in supply chains. Complexity has negative
impacts on efficiency and considerably decreases
responsiveness by slowing down the entire supply chain. Risks
are mainly related to the uncertainty in the business
environment and can disturb the development path of the supply
chain in the future. Thus, the main challenge concerns how to
keep structures at a low level of complexity, while decreasing
sensitivity to risks and ensuring a high level of adaptability.
Complexity and risk management both represent actual research
topics that should be paid more attention by the supply chain
researchers and practitioners.
Complexity and Risk Management in Supply Chains - The HICL
will provide a multidisciplinary network and forum for
scientists and practitioners involved in complexity and supply
chain risk management to interact with each other and exchange
ideas and information on the latest advancements/issues in
this field.
We welcome scientific and practical contributions from
different disciplines such as Business Administration &
Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Science & Mathematics, and law.
